In the summer of 2023, a domestic dispute in Troy, Alabama, escalated to a fatal conclusion, claiming the life of 59-year-old Essie B. Meadows. On the afternoon of July 26th, Troy Police responded to a report of a shooting in the 100 block of North Ridge Circle. Upon their arrival at the mobile home park, they discovered Meadows outside her residence, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
Investigators at the scene were quickly able to identify a suspect in the shooting.
Larvy Woods, a 78-year-old man who was an acquaintance of Meadows, was located within the same mobile home park and taken into custody without incident. Authorities have described the nature of the incident as domestic. The firearm believed to have been used in the shooting was also recovered at the scene.
In the days following the incident, it was revealed that Woods had recent prior arrests for misdemeanor domestic violence incidents. He was subsequently charged with the murder of Essie B. Meadows. During a court hearing, a judge denied bond for Woods, and he is being held in the Pike County Jail. The investigation into the death of Essie B. Meadows remains ongoing by the Troy Police Department and the Pike County District Attorney's Office.
