On August 3, 2023, around midnight, Phenix City Police responded to a shooting in the 1700 block of 20th Avenue, specifically at the Liberty Hill complex. Upon arrival, officers discovered 25-year-old Carnell Mobley, a resident of Columbus, Georgia, suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. He was transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:49 a.m.
