In the early morning hours of Monday, October 20, 2014, a burst of gunfire shattered the predawn quiet in Washington, D.C., leaving a scene of chaos and tragedy. When officers from the Metropolitan Police Department arrived at the 5300 block of 8th Street, NW, at approximately 2:46 a.m., they discovered that three men had been struck by bullets.
Among the victims was 29-year-old Jabari Fields, a male resident of Landover, Maryland.
All three wounded men were rushed to a local hospital for medical attention. Despite the efforts of emergency medical personnel, Jabari Fields succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The other two men who were shot sustained non-lethal wounds.
The Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch has been handling the investigation into the shooting death of Jabari Fields. In the immediate aftermath of the incident, authorities reached out to the public for assistance, appealing for any information that might lead to the apprehension of those responsible for this act of violence. They have offered a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
