In the early morning hours of October 8, 2023, a sense of unease settled over the 500 block of 16th Avenue in Phenix City, Alabama. At approximately 1:57 a.m., the sound of gunfire shattered the night, prompting a response from the Phenix City Police Department. Arriving at the scene, officers discovered a grim tableau. Twenty-year-old Brakevious Williams, a Black male, was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite the immediate medical attention, his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced deceased at the scene, leaving a community to grapple with the sudden and violent loss of a young life.
The ensuing investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division of the Phenix City Police Department quickly began to piece together the events that led to the tragic shooting.
