On a Sunday evening in Childersburg, Alabama, the life of 37-year-old Mason Marbury, a Black / African American man, was tragically cut short. On November 12, 2023, gunshots echoed through the Sadie Lee Homes housing community, prompting a response from local law enforcement. Arriving at the scene around 6:34 p.m., officers discovered two men suffering from gunshot wounds.
Marbury was grievously injured and airlifted to UAB Hospital, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
A second victim, identified as 28-year-old Nelson Rashad Seals, sustained injuries that were not life-threatening and received medical care. The violent event deeply impacted the Childersburg community, where Marbury was a well-known figure.
Born in nearby Sylacauga, Marbury was a graduate of Childersburg High School and an entrepreneur who ran his own car detailing and construction businesses.
