On November 12, 2023, 32-year-old African American woman Jasmine Hartley Callens was fatally shot in Selma, Alabama. The incident occurred in the 1500 block of Tremont Street while she was inside a vehicle with her five children, whose ages range from 14 to 5 years old. She was transported to a local hospital but succumbed to her injuries.
