In the city of Selma, Alabama, a tragic event unfolded that cut short the life of Jasmine Callens, a 32-year-old mother. On the evening of November 12, 2023, in the 1500 block of Tremont Street, Callens was shot while inside a vehicle. The shooting occurred in the presence of her five children, who ranged in age from five to fourteen. After being shot, Callens was transported to a local hospital.
Upon arriving at the hospital, law enforcement officers found Jasmine Callens unresponsive. Despite medical efforts, she succumbed to her gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead. The Selma Police Department quickly launched an investigation into the homicide.
Authorities identified 33-year-old Tramaine C. Walters, also known as “Cmoe Carter Jr.,” as the suspect in the fatal shooting. A warrant for capital murder was issued for his arrest, and he was described by police as being armed and dangerous with an extensive and violent criminal history. Law enforcement agencies initiated a statewide search to locate Walters, who was believed to have fled the city. The U.S. Marshals Service was also called in to assist in the manhunt.
The search for Tramaine Walters concluded on January 30, 2024, when he was arrested in Enterprise, Mississippi, during a traffic stop. Authorities in Clarke County, Mississippi, took him into custody after discovering he was wanted for capital murder in Dallas County, Alabama. Following his arrest, arrangements were made for his extradition back to Selma to face the charges against him.
