On a summer evening in Selma, Alabama, the life of 23-year-old Aiesha Franklin, a Black female from the nearby community of Minter, was tragically cut short. On June 11, 2022, while sitting in her parked vehicle on the 1800 block of Alabama Avenue, Franklin was fatally shot. Selma police officers responded to reports of gunfire around 8:30 p.m. and discovered her at the scene.
Despite immediate medical attention, she was pronounced deceased.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the Selma Police Department launched an investigation into what was determined to be a homicide. Initially, investigators had no suspects or a clear motive for the shooting, which marked the eighth homicide in Selma that year. The investigation eventually led to a significant breakthrough. A grand jury indicted three individuals in connection with the murder of Aiesha Franklin. The suspects were identified as Jamarcus D. Harris, Ladarius D. Moore, and Jacameron W. M. Ware.
