On a Sunday evening in Selma, Alabama, the community was shaken by the city's first homicide of the new year. On January 14, 2024, officers from the Selma Police Department responded to a call of shots fired in the 2100 block of Woodrow Avenue East. Upon their arrival at approximately 7:15 p.m., they discovered 38-year-old LaToya McCord inside a vehicle, unresponsive. She had been fatally shot.
