In the spring of 2020, a domestic dispute in Selma, Alabama, escalated into a tragedy that claimed the life of 56-year-old Renesia Levon Caver and left her daughter wounded. On the evening of Saturday, April 11th, Selma police were dispatched to the 2400 block of Annie Cooper Avenue following reports of a shooting. There, they discovered that a verbal altercation between Caver and her boyfriend, Lebarron Powell, had taken a violent turn.
The argument reportedly began inside the residence
and spilled out into the street. During the course of the dispute, Powell is alleged to have retrieved a handgun and opened fire, striking Caver. Her daughter was also shot when she attempted to intervene and protect her mother. Following the shooting, Powell fled the scene.
Emergency services transported both Renesia Caver and her daughter to Vaughan Regional Medical Center. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Caver succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead. Her daughter was later airlifted to a hospital in Montgomery for further treatment of her injuries.
The Selma Police Department quickly identified Lebarron Powell as the suspect and launched a search. Within a short time, he was located and taken into custody without incident. Powell was subsequently charged with murder and attempted murder for his alleged roles in the death of Renesia Caver and the wounding of her daughter. He was then transported to the Dallas County Jail to await legal proceedings.
