In the winter of 2023, the life of 45-year-old Kimberly Kidd was tragically cut short in what authorities have described as a domestic violence-type murder in Monroe County, Alabama. The Black / African American female's death prompted a swift homicide investigation after her body was discovered on December 10, 2023.
Kimberly Kidd was found deceased in her home on Tait Loop, concealed under a pile of clothes in a bedroom.
An autopsy would later reveal that she died from a fatal gunshot wound to the head. The grim discovery was made after she had been reported as a missing person. Witnesses reported last seeing Kidd on the evening of December 9, engaged in a heated argument with her live-in boyfriend, 47-year-old Michael Dewayne Thomas. After the couple went inside their residence, Kidd was not seen alive again.
Following the discovery of Kidd's body, law enforcement immediately identified Michael Dewayne Thomas as the primary suspect and initiated a manhunt. Thomas, who was on probation for a federal weapons charge and had recently been released from prison, was considered armed and dangerous. The search for Thomas concluded on December 15, when he was apprehended in Pine Hill, located in the neighboring Wilcox County. Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Marshals Service, were involved in the effort to locate and capture him.
After his arrest, Michael Dewayne Thomas was initially held on a federal probation violation. Subsequently, during a court appearance in Monroe County on December 18, his bond was set at $1.5 million. The community of Packers Bend, where Kimberly Kidd was well-known, was left to mourn her violent death.
