In the small town of Samson, Alabama, a normal Tuesday in March of 2009 was irrevocably shattered by a wave of violence that claimed the life of 19-month-old Corrine Gracy Myers. The young female was with her mother, 31-year-old Andrea Dawn Myers, when they were both tragically killed in a mass shooting that stunned the community.
The perpetrator was identified as Michael McLendon.
On March 10, 2009, McLendon embarked on a horrific rampage, ultimately killing ten people across two counties before taking his own life. Corrine and her mother were among his victims in Samson. They were visiting neighbors when McLendon opened fire on the front porch of a home.
The senseless act of violence also claimed the lives of several of McLendon's own family members. The motive for the devastating attack remains unclear. Because McLendon died by suicide at the conclusion of the shootings, there were no arrests or trials. The community was left to mourn the immense loss of life, including that of a toddler whose life had just begun.
