Jamelle C. Willis, also known as 3 Stax, was a 29-year-old man from Middletown, Ohio. On February 16, 2017, Willis was found shot to death inside The Razors Edge recording studio in Middletown. He was shot in the back and shoulder, and was already deceased when police arrived at the scene around 2 a.m. The incident occurred following an argument between Willis and his friend, Willie James Boyd Jr., also known as Yung God.
Willie James Boyd Jr., a 21-year-old from Dayton and Franklin, was
arrested and charged with murder the following day. Boyd turned himself in early Friday morning, February 17, 2017. According to police, Boyd and Willis were friends, and the shooting resulted from their argument inside the recording studio. Multiple search warrants were filed during the investigation, but the exact cause of the argument was not disclosed.
The case drew significant attention in the local community, as Willis' wife, Monica Morris Johnson Willis, expressed shock and disbelief over the incident. She described Boyd as a close family friend and stated that the shooting had left her entire family stunned. Boyd was eventually charged with murder, and the case proceeded through the legal system.
