On New Year's Day of 2024, a verbal dispute on the front porch of a home in Anniston, Alabama, escalated into a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 21-year-old Kasmine L. McAfee. The young African American mother was on her property in the 2700 block of Simpson Street at approximately 4:30 p.m. when a man she did not know walked onto her land. An argument ensued between them, which concluded with the man shooting McAfee once before fleeing the scene.
Emergency services were called,
and McAfee was rushed to the Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center. Despite the efforts of medical staff, she succumbed to her injuries and passed away. Investigators from the Anniston Police Department immediately began working the case, and through their efforts, they were able to identify a suspect.
Three days later, on January 4, 2024, investigators located and arrested 35-year-old Jarvis Donquise Swink, also a resident of Anniston. Swink was taken into custody and subsequently charged with one count of intentional murder. He was booked into the Calhoun County Jail, where he is being held without bond as the investigation continues.
Kasmine McAfee was remembered by her family as a devoted daughter and a wonderful mother to her son. Her loved ones described her as a beautiful soul who was charismatic, funny, and humble. She is survived by her fiancé and their young son, along with her mother and siblings. The investigation into her tragic death is ongoing, and authorities have encouraged anyone with information to come forward.
