On January 1, 2024, Kasmine L. McAfee, a 21-year-old African American woman from Anniston, Alabama, was fatally shot in the 2700 block of Simpson Street. The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. Emergency responders transported her to Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
