In the early morning hours of May 4, 2024, the quiet of a residential neighborhood in Montgomery, Alabama, was shattered by gunfire. When police arrived at the 5100 block of Loblolly Pine Drive around 3:10 a.m., they discovered a tragic scene. Twenty-eight-year-old DaNeshia Lashay McMillan, an African American woman from the nearby community of Union Springs, was found with fatal gunshot wounds.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two men were also found at the location with gunshot injuries. One of the men had sustained life-threatening wounds, while the other's injuries were considered non-life-threatening. Both were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. The incident left the community shaken and searching for answers.
In the wake of the shooting, the Montgomery Police Department launched an investigation into the death of DaNeshia McMillan and the wounding of the two men. Despite their efforts, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects in the case, and no arrests have been announced. Funeral services for DaNeshia were held on May 18, 2024, at the Person Chapel A.M.E. Church in Midway, Alabama, followed by her burial at Sandtown Cemetery.
