On the night of May 15, 2024, at approximately 11:57 p.m., Birmingham Police Department officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert indicating multiple gunshots in the 5500 block of 1st Avenue South. Upon arrival, they discovered 29-year-old Douglas Fitzgerald Youngblood Jr., a resident of Fairfield, Alabama, lying unresponsive in the roadway near his crashed vehicle, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
