McGhee was one of four people fatally gunned down in the attack, which also left ten others wounded. He was found on the sidewalk outside the building and was pronounced dead at the scene. Damen McDaniel, 22, and Hatarius Woods, 27, were taken into custody and subsequently faced capital murder charges in connection with the shooting at the Trendsetters Lounge. The arrests brought a measure of closure to the grieving families, with Stevie McGhee's sister stating that the news, coming around the time of her brother's birthday, felt like the best birthday gift possible under the tragic circumstances.
