In the late morning of a mid-June day, violence shattered the calm of a Southeast Washington, D.C. neighborhood. On Sunday, June 14, 2015, at approximately 11:47 a.m., gunshots rang out in the 5200 block of A Street, SE. When Metropolitan Police Department officers arrived at the scene, they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds.
The victim was identified as 26-year-old James Brown of Northeast, D.C. He was rushed to a local hospital for treatment of his critical injuries. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Brown succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead.
In the days following the shooting, the Metropolitan Police Department actively sought assistance from the public to gather information about the homicide.
Authorities offered a reward of up to $25,000 for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for James Brown's death. However, the case remains listed among the unsolved homicides for that year, and there have been no public announcements regarding any arrests or the identification of any suspects in the years since the incident.
