In the quiet community of Triana, Alabama, the evening of October 21, 2024, was shattered by the sound of gunfire, leaving a family and community to mourn the loss of 37-year-old Trayvon Deshawn Harris. The fatal incident unfolded around 8:10 p.m. in the 100 block of Murphy Lane, where Harris was discovered with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. Despite being rushed to Huntsville Hospital for emergency treatment, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
Responding to the scene
were multiple units from the Madison County Sheriff's Office and the Huntsville Police Department. Neighbors reported hearing the gunshots and the harrowing screams of the victim in the aftermath. Security camera footage from a nearby residence captured the sound of Harris's screams and showed a truck speeding away from the scene. The investigation into the shooting was swiftly undertaken by the Madison County Sheriff's Office's Major Crimes detectives and Crime Scene Investigation units.
In the course of their investigation, authorities identified a suspect, Martavious Jamaal Williams. According to court documents, Williams is alleged to have shot Harris from a 2002 Chevy Silverado. Already in custody on other matters, Williams was subsequently charged with Capital Murder-Fired from a Moving Vehicle in connection with Harris's death. He is currently being held without bond in the Madison County Jail. The case continues to move through the legal system as the community awaits justice for the violent death of Trayvon Harris.
