Jayson Click, a 38-year-old male, was fatally shot on the night of December 13, 2023, in Madison, Alabama. The incident occurred while Click, the owner of a repossession company named B&S Collateral Recovery, was attempting to repossess a vehicle at a residence.
The man accused of the shooting, 47-year-old Warren Siao, claimed he believed Click and his associate were thieves trying to steal his car.
According to Detective Joshua Mosely's testimony in a preliminary hearing, Siao stated he was in bed when his dogs began barking at a commotion outside. Siao admitted to firing five to six rounds from a rifle as he saw the men with his car, but asserted that his intention was only to scare them away. One or more of these shots struck Jayson Click, who died at the scene.
Prior to the fatal shooting, Click and his partner had reportedly knocked on Siao's door twice without receiving an answer. It was later revealed during the investigation that Siao had been unemployed for three months and was behind on his car payments. Siao himself called 911 after the shooting.
Warren Siao was arrested and charged in connection with Jayson Click's death. In the months following the incident, Jayson Click's widow, Ann Click, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Siao, claiming he was negligent and reckless when he fired the weapon in her husband's direction. However, this lawsuit was later voluntarily dismissed in July 2024, reportedly due to difficulties in serving Siao with the complaint and summons, as it was alleged he had skipped bail and was living out of state. As of late 2024, legal proceedings against Warren Siao were scheduled to continue in the new year.
