On a Thursday night in the Washington Highlands neighborhood of Southeast Washington, D.C., a young man's life was cut short by gunfire. Twenty-five-year-old Rashawn Lewis Wright was discovered by police with gunshot wounds on June 9, 2016. The shooting took place at approximately 10:26 p.m. in the 900 block of Varney Street, SE.
Responding to reports of gunfire in the area, officers from the Metropolitan Police Department found Wright injured at the scene. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention, but tragically, he did not survive his injuries and was pronounced dead.
In the wake of the shooting, the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch launched an investigation into Wright's death. Authorities have urged the public to come forward with any information that might aid their inquiry. To encourage community assistance, a reward of up to $25,000 has been offered for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the homicide. As of the initial reports, no suspects had been publicly identified in connection with the fatal shooting.
