In the predawn hours of a Wednesday in Washington, D.C., a young man's life was cut short by gunfire. Twenty-year-old Robert Lee Vinson was in the 1600 block of V Street in the Southeast quadrant of the city on August 3, 2016, when violence erupted. At approximately 2:45 a.m., the sound of multiple gunshots shattered the quiet of the late summer night. When police arrived at the scene, they found Vinson suffering from gunshot wounds.
