On a summer evening in Birmingham, Alabama, the life of 20-year-old NaBryan Darrell Key Adams was tragically cut short. On August 21, 2024, in the Germania Park community, Adams and a companion, 28-year-old Kayla Alexandria Warren, were at a residence in the 700 block of 30th Street Southwest when shots were fired toward the home.
Both Adams and Warren sustained gunshot wounds in the attack. Emergency services were called to the scene around 8:00 p.m., where they found Warren wounded.
She was transported to UAB Hospital but succumbed to her injuries later that evening. In a separate vehicle, Adams was driven to Princeton Hospital before also being transferred to UAB Hospital for treatment of his critical injuries. Despite medical efforts, Na'Bryan Adams passed away the following day, on August 22, 2024.
In the wake of the double homicide, the Birmingham Police Department launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The initial investigation did not immediately identify any suspects. The community mourned the loss of the two young victims, with a funeral service held for Na'Bryan Adams on August 31, 2024, at Beulah Baptist Church in Birmingham.
Later, developments in the case led to the arrests of two men, Jamil Carillo Jimson and Ladre Todd Green, both 23 years old at the time. They were charged in connection with the deaths of Adams and Warren. However, in a subsequent turn of events, the charges against both suspects were dropped, leaving the case unresolved and the search for justice for NaBryan Adams and Kayla Warren ongoing.
