On July 27, 2024, at approximately 9:10 p.m., 21-year-old Howell "Hal" Booth Holland III was fatally shot in the parking lot of the Embassy Suites hotel on University Boulevard in downtown Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Responding officers from the Tuscaloosa Police Department found Holland deceased at the scene from a single gunshot wound.
