In the summer of 2020, Henry McAlpine, a 44-year-old man from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, lost his life to gun violence. On June 23, 2020, McAlpine was fatally shot during an argument on Elm Street in Tuscaloosa. He died the following day, June 24, 2020, at DCH Regional Medical Center.
The investigation into McAlpine's death led to the arrest of 24-year-old Omar Fowler, who was charged with his murder. Fowler was subsequently released on bond.
The case took a dramatic turn in August 2020, when Fowler himself became the victim of a shooting.
On a Wednesday in August, at an Allen's Food Mart on Highway 11, Omar Fowler was shot multiple times. The alleged shooter was identified as Johnny McAlpine, the 50-year-old brother of Henry McAlpine. Johnny McAlpine was subsequently arrested and charged with attempted murder for the shooting of the man accused of killing his brother. Fowler was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.
