On August 31, 2019, 26-year-old Brentson Skidmore was involved in an altercation outside The Filling Station, a bar in downtown Tuscaloosa, Alabama. During the incident, 23-year-old Ryan Gunning struck Skidmore in the head, rendering him unconscious. Skidmore was immediately transported to DCH Regional Medical Center, where he underwent emergency surgery for a life-threatening brain injury and was subsequently placed in the Intensive Care Unit.
