In the Ensley community of Birmingham, Alabama, a verbal dispute escalated into deadly violence on the afternoon of April 28, 2024, claiming the life of 50-year-old Terry Dewayne Hinson. A Black male, Hinson was among a group of people in the 1700 block of Avenue I when the argument broke out.
The situation took a tragic turn when an individual involved in the dispute produced a firearm and shot Hinson. Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 3:22 p.m., where they found Hinson unresponsive in the roadway with a gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of a passerby to render aid, he was pronounced deceased by Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel.
In the days following the shooting, investigators with the Birmingham Police Department identified 42-year-old Cedric Campbell of Center Point as the suspect. A warrant for murder was issued for his arrest on May 1, 2024. The next day, members of the Birmingham Crime Reduction Team located and apprehended Campbell at a gas station on Center Point Parkway. He was subsequently booked into the Jefferson County Jail and is being held without bond.
