In the autumn of 2018, a life was tragically cut short in Birmingham, Alabama. A 27-year-old man named Korey Carlisle was shot and killed on a Saturday afternoon in late October. The incident unfolded in the 600 block of Goldwire Place, where Carlisle had driven and was engaged in a conversation with another individual. Suddenly, a single gunshot ended the exchange, and Carlisle was struck.
Responding to a call of a person shot, Birmingham police officers arrived at the scene to find Carlisle deceased. The investigation into the shooting pointed to a suspect, and an arrest was made. Ronald Williams Johnson was taken into custody and subsequently charged with murder in connection with Korey Carlisle's death. Following his arrest, Johnson was booked into the Jefferson County Jail with a bond set at $75,000. Family members of Carlisle, who was a father, turned to the community for support in the wake of their loss, starting a GoFundMe to assist with funeral expenses.
