In the early morning hours of June 19, 2019, a tragic and unusual sequence of events led to the death of 40-year-old Jerand Deon Jackson in Birmingham, Alabama. The incident began when Jackson was involved in a motorcycle accident. Following the initial crash, he was reportedly carjacked and physically assaulted by individuals who had stopped at the scene of the accident.
In a devastating turn of events, while lying injured in the roadway, Jackson was run over by a responding police
officer who was unaware that he and the motorcyclist were in the road. Jackson was pronounced dead at the scene. It remains unclear whether his death was a direct result of the injuries sustained during the carjacking and beating, or from being struck by the police vehicle.
Following an investigation into the complex incident, authorities made an arrest. Keyton Nicole Sparks was taken into custody and subsequently charged with murder in connection with the death of Jerand Deon Jackson.
