On the evening of March 16, 2024, 22-year-old Maleak Zayshein Chandler, a Black male, was shot and killed in the 8300 block of Vasser Avenue in Birmingham, Alabama. The circumstances surrounding his death suggest a tragic betrayal by those he considered friends.
According to Birmingham police, Chandler was lured to the location by his own friends with the intention of robbing him of his firearm.
Tragically, the encounter turned fatal, and Chandler was killed by the very people he had accompanied to allegedly 'shoot up a house.' At the time of the incident, authorities reported that Chandler was in a stolen vehicle, dressed in all black, and wearing a ski mask.
Further complicating the narrative, law enforcement officials revealed that Chandler himself was a suspect in a separate homicide investigation from 2023. The investigation into Chandler's death remains ongoing.
