Tamarion Burton, a 19-year-old male from Jackson, Mississippi, was killed in a vehicular incident on February 9, 2024, in Hoover, Alabama. The events of that day unfolded on Interstate 459 South, where a high-speed crash led to his death and serious injuries for another occupant in his vehicle. An investigation into the incident revealed that three vehicles, whose occupants all knew one another, were traveling together from the Atlanta area back to Mississippi at dangerously high speeds.
The crash occurred when a BMW M4, one of the vehicles in the group, collided with the Nissan Sentra in which Burton was a passenger. This impact forced the Nissan off the road, where it struck a tree. After the collision, the BMW and a third vehicle, a Jeep Cherokee, briefly stopped but then fled the scene as police began to arrive. This initiated a police pursuit. The driver of the Jeep, Elisha Jamal Lindsey, 22, of Jackson, Mississippi, was apprehended after being involved in a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 31 and I-459. The driver of the BMW, Tyrique M. Carter, 22, of Byram, Mississippi, continued to flee but was eventually caught and arrested at a gas station on Morgan Road in Helena.
Following the investigation, both Carter and Lindsey were charged with reckless murder. In addition to the murder charge, Carter faced charges for leaving the scene of an accident with injuries and fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement. Lindsey also received a charge for fleeing or attempting to elude. Both men were to be held in the Jefferson County Jail without bond. The investigation was ongoing, with the possibility of further charges being filed.
