On December 20, 2023, 42-year-old Juan Tierney Hall, an off-duty Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office detention deputy, was fatally shot during an altercation at The Lory of Hoover Apartments in Jefferson County, Alabama. At approximately 9:52 p.m., a 33-year-old resident heard a knock at his door and, upon opening it, observed Hall armed at a neighbor's door.
