On July 3, 2020, 8-year-old Royta Giles Jr. was tragically killed in a shooting at the Riverchase Galleria mall in Hoover, Alabama. Royta was at the mall with his family, waiting to enter a store when gunfire erupted near the food court. The incident began as a verbal dispute between several individuals, escalating into a shootout when Montez Coleman, a 22-year-old man involved in the argument, allegedly fired a weapon.
