Markell Sanders, a 15-year-old Black boy from Birmingham, Alabama, was killed just after midnight on January 14, 2024, inside his home in the 4200 block of 39th Avenue North in the city’s Inglenook area. According to Birmingham police, officers were dispatched at about 12:16 a.m. after a 911 call reporting that he had been shot.
