In the late hours of March 8, 2024, a promising young life was cut short in Nashville, Tennessee. Gregory T. Manning II, a 20-year-old Black male, had arranged to meet with an acquaintance at the Villas of Metro Center on Ponder Place to record a song. He arrived at the apartment around midnight, hoping to pursue his musical ambitions. As the night progressed, more individuals joined the gathering, and the atmosphere within the apartment shifted.
An argument broke out, escalating with terrifying speed and culminating in gunfire. Manning was fatally shot. A woman present at the scene, who was not involved in the altercation, placed a frantic call to 911 to report the shooting.
Homicide detectives from the Metro Nashville Police Department immediately began an intensive investigation into the death of Gregory T. Manning II. Their efforts were supported by the Specialized Investigations Division's TITANS Unit. Investigators worked tirelessly, pursuing leads to identify the individuals responsible for the senseless act of violence. Their persistence paid off, and on March 19, 2024, they arrested 18-year-old Marickus Ladd at a residence on Brook Castle Drive. Ladd was subsequently charged with criminal homicide. The investigation revealed that Manning had gone to the apartment at Ladd's request, and it was during this visit that the fatal argument erupted.
The investigation did not end with Ladd's arrest. Detectives continued to piece together the events of that tragic night, leading to the identification of a second suspect. On May 20, 2024, 17-year-old Dazmane Moore was taken into custody and charged as a co-defendant in Manning's murder. According to authorities, both Ladd and Moore had brandished firearms during the confrontation with Manning, a confrontation that ultimately led to his death. Due to his age, Moore was booked into juvenile detention. The case against both individuals is proceeding through the justice system as the investigation into the full circumstances of Gregory T. Manning II's death continues.
