On a late summer evening in Washington, D.C., the life of 21-year-old Vincent Carter was tragically cut short in a burst of gunfire. The male was in the courtyard of an apartment complex in the 1300 block of Columbia Road, Northwest, on Thursday, September 19, 2019, when the shooting erupted at approximately 10:00 p.m. The violent event unfolded in the Columbia Heights neighborhood, leaving a scene of chaos and multiple victims.
The attack was sudden, resulting in a total of six individuals being shot. When officers from the Third District and emergency personnel arrived, they discovered five adult male victims and one adult female victim suffering from gunshot wounds. Vincent Carter was found with no signs of life and was pronounced dead at the scene. The other five victims were transported to local hospitals for treatment of their injuries, which ranged from non-life-threatening to critical.
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch are actively investigating the fatal shooting. In the immediate aftermath, authorities began a search for two male suspects believed to be armed with AK-style rifles. Investigators also identified a vehicle of interest, a light-colored Nissan sedan, that was captured on surveillance cameras.
