On December 19, 2022, at approximately 9:37 p.m., Birmingham Police Department officers responded to a shooting at the intersection of Park Place and 23rd Street North in Birmingham, Alabama. Upon arrival, they discovered 21-year-old DeAnthony Dewayne Samuels suffering from gunshot wounds. Samuels was transported to UAB Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries shortly before 1:00 a.m. on December 20.
