In the early morning hours of January 23, 2025, at approximately 12:45 AM, Cumberland County Sheriff's deputies conducted a well-being check at a residence in the 5600 block of Medicus Lane in Hope Mills, North Carolina. Upon arrival, deputies discovered 50-year-old male Johnny Haywood Fisher deceased inside his home. The discovery prompted an immediate homicide investigation by the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.
Following a swift investigation, law enforcement took 18-year-old
Jonathan Michael Hatchell into custody. Hatchell was charged with first-degree murder in connection with Fisher's death. The suspect was processed at the Cumberland County Detention Center, where he was held without bond. The circumstances surrounding the relationship between Fisher and Hatchell, as well as the motive for the alleged murder, were not immediately disclosed by authorities.
The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office continued their investigation and requested that anyone with additional information contact Cumberland County Sheriff's Office Homicide Detective Senior Sergeant Brinkley or submit anonymous tips through Crimestoppers.
