In the fall of 2022, the life of 17-year-old Tynez Lloyd Durden was tragically cut short in a senseless act of violence. On the evening of Monday, October 17, 2022, Durden, a student at Woodlawn High School, was standing in a parking lot in the 7700 block of Sunrise Lane in Birmingham, Alabama. It was then that a car reportedly drove by, and shots were fired from the vehicle, striking the teenager.
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene around 6:40 p.m., where they found Durden
with a gunshot wound. He was rushed to Children's of Alabama for treatment. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Tynez Lloyd Durden succumbed to his injuries three days later, on Thursday, October 20, 2022. His passing was a profound loss to his family, friends, and the Woodlawn High School community, where he had been a student.
The Birmingham Police Department launched a homicide investigation into the shooting death of the young male. Investigators believe the shooting was a drive-by incident.
