On May 5, 2022, at approximately 3:20 AM, Birmingham Police Department officers responded to reports of a person shot in the 1600 block of 26th Avenue North. Upon arrival, they discovered 41-year-old Courtney Demond Mays lying unresponsive on the sidewalk in the 1600 block of 25th Avenue North, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
