In the early hours of November 4, 2022, emergency responders were dispatched to a mobile home fire in the 400 block of Weaver Drive in Bessemer, Alabama. Upon extinguishing the blaze, firefighters discovered the body of 27-year-old Sebedeo Mendez Nunez inside the residence. Subsequent examination by the Jefferson County Coroner's Office revealed that Nunez had sustained a fatal gunshot wound, indicating he was shot before the fire occurred.
