In the fading daylight of October 29, 2022, a single gunshot shattered the evening calm in the parking lot of a CVS on West Valley Avenue in Homewood, Alabama. The victim was 39-year-old Eric Steven Kaczmarek, a male resident of the area. Witnesses initially mistook the sharp crack for a car backfiring, a mundane sound in a busy commercial area.
