On the afternoon of Monday, July 19, 2021, Lapez Reddrick, a 47-year-old Black man, was inside his residence in the Wylam area of Birmingham, Alabama, when his life was cut short. The fatal encounter happened at approximately 3:20 p.m. in his home located in the 900 block of Erie Street.
Just moments before the shooting, witnesses reported hearing a heated argument coming from within the house. The verbal dispute escalated tragically, culminating in gunfire.
After being shot, Reddrick collapsed. In the immediate aftermath, an unidentified Black male was seen fleeing from the back of the residence.
Birmingham Police Department detectives launched a homicide investigation into Reddrick's death. As part of their inquiry, they acquired images of a male individual who was near the back door of the home just minutes before the fatal shooting occurred. This person has been identified as a person of interest that investigators are keen to speak with regarding the incident.
The case has been featured by Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama in an appeal to the public for assistance. A cash reward of up to $5,000 has been offered for any information that leads to the charge and arrest of an identified suspect. To date, there has been no public announcement of any arrests made in connection to the murder of Lapez Reddrick, and the investigation remains ongoing.
