Daniel Wideman, a 19-year-old white man, was shot late on the night of June 17, 2016, on Avenue R in Birmingham’s Ensley area. Patrol officers responding to reports of gunfire found him down in the street with a gunshot wound, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, turning a warm Friday night into a sudden, silent cordon of flashing lights and blocked-off asphalt.
