On the morning of May 12th, Hardy was at the Monarch Ridge apartments on Gallant Drive, sitting in his vehicle and engaged in a conversation with an individual in a silver SUV. The interaction took a fatal turn when a passenger from the SUV emerged and opened fire into Hardy's vehicle.
Struck by multiple gunshots, Hardy attempted to escape the sudden onslaught. In a desperate bid for safety, his vehicle moved through the parking lot, striking several other cars before coming to a stop. The quiet morning was shattered by the sound of gunfire and the subsequent chaos. Despite the efforts of medical personnel who arrived at the scene, Keith Hardy was pronounced dead from his injuries.
The Birmingham Police Department quickly launched a homicide investigation. Through their inquiries, they learned that a dispute had preceded the deadly shooting.
