On May 2, 2021, at approximately 12:30 a.m., 27-year-old Eric Tyler Sledge Jr. of Hoover, Alabama, was fatally shot in Birmingham's Southside area. Officers from the South Precinct responded to reports of a shooting in the 1100 block of 20th Street South and found Sledge lying unresponsive in the roadway with a gunshot wound. He was transported to UAB Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
