On January 20, 2021, in Birmingham, Alabama, 21-year-old Eusi Malik Kater Jr. was fatally shot during an encounter with law enforcement. Around 2:14 p.m., officers from the Birmingham Police Department's South Precinct responded to reports of gunfire in the 100 block of 5th Avenue Southwest.
