In the late hours of a Monday night in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, the life of 33-year-old Sean Michael Barrett was tragically cut short in what authorities have described as a murder-suicide. The incident unfolded on March 15, 2021, in the parking lot of Dixie Pulp and Paper, where Barrett was an employee.
The shooting occurred during a shift change, a time when workers were either arriving for or leaving their duties. Witnesses and video footage captured the harrowing moments as Demorius Mondreal Polke, a 27-year-old colleague of Barrett's, opened fire. Polke shot Barrett multiple times before turning the gun on himself, ending his own life at the scene.
Law enforcement officials were called to the industrial plant at 11:32 p.m. and discovered both men deceased upon their arrival. The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, which is handling the investigation, has confirmed that both men were employees of the plant.
