In the fall of 2020, the life of 39-year-old Jacqueline Sims Newsome was tragically cut short in Birmingham, Alabama. On the evening of October 13th, a landlord for a residence in the Ensley neighborhood at 445 29th Street made a grim discovery. After noticing the door to the home was open, the landlord entered to investigate and found Jacqueline and a man, later identified as 40-year-old Joseph Scott 'Scotti' Norris, unresponsive in a bedroom.
Both had sustained apparent gunshot wounds.
Birmingham Police officers were dispatched to the scene at approximately 11:41 p.m. where both Newsome and Norris were pronounced dead. Investigators with the Birmingham Police Department quickly launched a double homicide investigation into their deaths. Despite their efforts, as of the most recent reports, no arrests have been made in connection with the murders, and a clear motive has not been publicly established. The case of who killed Jacqueline Sims Newsome and Joseph Scott Norris remains unsolved.

Jacqueline had been married to Joseph Scott Norris for five years at the time of their deaths. She was a mother to a son and a daughter, and also a grandmother.
