In the summer of 2020, a heart-wrenching incident unfolded in a residence in Forestdale, Alabama. On July 29th, Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputies received a call to a home in the 100 block of Dalewood Manor Lane concerning an unresponsive infant. The male child, two-month-old Amari Ruffin, was reportedly sleeping with his father when he was discovered to not be breathing.
Emergency services transported the infant to a local children's hospital, but tragically, he was pronounced
deceased. What initially may have appeared as a medical emergency took a dark turn following an examination by the Jefferson County Coroner's Office. The autopsy revealed the devastating truth behind Amari's death; he had succumbed to blunt force trauma to his head. The examination also uncovered evidence of previous injuries, suggesting a history of abuse.
The findings of the autopsy led to a thorough investigation by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. After consulting with the Coroner's Office and the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office, the evidence pointed to the child's father as the perpetrator. Subsequently, an arrest warrant for the charge of Capital Murder was issued for Jamarius Ruffin. He was taken into custody and booked into the Jefferson County Jail, where he was held without bond.
