On December 11, 2023, at approximately 7:50 p.m., Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies responded to reports of a vehicle crash at an apartment complex on Chickasaw Drive in Forestdale, Alabama. Upon arrival, they discovered a vehicle that had collided with several parked cars. Inside, 13-year-old Johnathan Keith Cottingham of Forestdale and 19-year-old Louis Craig IV of Birmingham were found deceased from apparent gunshot wounds.
